secondary research theme: toxic substances/hazardous and solid wastes
The primary societal issue is to reduce and prevent the exposure of humans and ecosystems to toxic substances like pesticide residues, PCBs, lead, and other agents. The major research objectives to control toxic and hazardous substances are:
- Provide cost-effective management plans to reduce production;
- Develop innovative solutions
that reduce risk by promoting avoidance and control;
- Develop models of chemical fate and
transport;
- Ccreate treatment technologies for chemical removal destruction and contaminated-system
remediation; and
- Identify and employ the natural biological and biophysical processes
for ecosystem cleansing and restoration.
